The word “photography" is of Greek derivation and literally means “drawing with light”.

At Petrus Photographicus PhotoArt  the photographic image is transformed into art by many techniques, including use of the digital darkroom. There is no pretence at representing reality here but to provoke emotions through the visual sense. The aim is production of artworks that excite the imagination and provoke feelings of beauty, wonderment and sometimes even amusement.

Heavenly Earth references planet earth as seen from the heavens. The shapes and tones created by water sculpting the earth’s crust make for marvellous photographs. No doubt other planets in our universe exhibit visual beauty from on high.

Bark with Bite explores the natural textures, tone and colour expressed in the bark of trees, especially native Australian species. The close-up detail of eucalyptus bark often reveals “dots" redolent of Australian aboriginal dot art paintings. Is it possible this microarchitecture of native tree bark inspired aboriginal artists in their artistic medium?

Arboreal Architecture alludes to a connection between the forms of trees and human (and other animal) anatomy. Why is anthropomorphism such a powerful psychological force?

Floral Flirtations excite with kaleidoscopes of colour that have evolved  to enhance fertilisation by insects and which make for photographic nirvana.  Colourful plants attract insect and photographer alike!

Clouds, like thoughts are ephemeral and Cloudescapes stretch the imagination from the world of the real to the world of the dream.

Abstractions extend the dream into fantasy and beyond.
